A Dachshund is a low-set, long-bodied dog breed of the hound family. Developed in Germany centuries ago, these canines were primarily used for hunting badgers. Known for their wiry coats, long ears, and curled tail, their distinct look is one easily recognized. Dachshunds come in a variety of colors and coat varieties from short-haired to long-haired, and wire-haired. Surprisingly, they come in two size varieties as well, standard and miniature.
