Dachshunds are full of personality and quirks. For instance, they were bred in Germany to hunt badgers and were registed as a separate breed in 1879! Known for their short, stubby legs, dachshunds are surprisingly strong and can run quickly for their size. They come in two varieties, smooth and wirehaired, and in three sizes-standard, mini and tweenie. Perhaps their most endearing trait is their unending affection and loyalty; dachshunds are known for being great family pets and look to their owners for comfort.
Depending on the Dachshund's coat and grooming requirements, they may have minimal to moderate shedding. Although Dachshunds have a smooth short haired or longhaired coat, these coats may require regular brushing and combing to maintain their appearance and to remove dead hair from the coat, which helps to minimize shedding.
