Another unusual fact about dachshunds is that they actually come in two distinct sizes standardand miniature-sized and have three coat varieties smooth, wired-haired and long-haired.
Dachshunds have a unique coat that is double-layered and comes in two distinct varieties. The first is the short-haired, also known as Smooth-haired, variety. This kind of coat is very shiny, sleek, and short with a small undercoat. The second variation is the long-haired variety. This kind of coat is longer, softer, shaggier, and has a thick, lush undercoat.
Dachshunds should not be fed chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, avocados, macadamia nuts, dairy, and products containing sugar substitutes such as xylitol due to their high toxicity levels which can lead to serious digestive problems. Additionally, raw bones can cause choking or gut obstruction, while processed or cooked bones can splinter and cause internal damage so it is best to avoid giving Dachshunds bones.
