Some fun facts about Dachshunds are that they come in two varieties, standard and miniature, and three coat types, wirehaired, smooth and longhaired. Dachshunds have very keen noses and sometimes are used for truffle hunting.
Dachshunds have a short, smooth coat or a long, wiry coat. Their coats come in various colors including black, tan, cream, brindle, red, shades of gray, or blue. The coat of the long-haired variant is typically longer under the neck and behind the ears than it is on the body and legs. It’s not uncommon for the wiry-coated variety to have a beard and eyebrows. The fur is usually thick and does not tangle easily, which reduces grooming time.
Dachshunds should not be fed any type of candy, chocolate, or human food that contains large amounts of sugar, as these can lead to long-term health issues.
