A French Bulldog, or Frenchie as they are often called, is a small-bodied, low-slung breed of dog originating in 19th century France. First bred in an effort to reduce the size of the English Bulldog, the French Bulldog is friendly and adaptable, making an ideal companion for a variety of lifestyles. Characterized by its bat-like ears, Frenchie's also have a flat, wide muzzle, short legs and a wide chest. To ensure the breed’s signature muscular physique, daily exercise is important.
French Bulldogs are low-maintenance pups, but they can still shed some hair. While their coats are not as long as other breeds, it is still important to brush them regularly to minimize shedding. In general, French Bulldogs do not create a lot of excess hair in the environment, thus making them great companions for those who want a companion but don't want to worry about shedding. French Bulldogs often have short fur which stays attached to their bodies, and since the coats are short, it can be easier to manage the shedding.
French Bulldogs should not be given any food or snacks other than those specifically approved for them. Foods like chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, leeks, avocados, and macadamias are all toxic and can cause stomach problems or other health issues for French Bulldogs.
