Golden Retrievers are also incredibly active and need lots of daily exercise. They thrive in an active household and do best when they are given proper structure and training. They love to be a part of the family and due to their intelligence they can become bored quickly if not given the proper mental stimulation. They do need regular grooming, typically 6-8 weeks.
While Golden Retrievers are considered one of the least-shedding breeds of dog, they still do need to be groomed regularly. They can shed quite a bit throughout the year and may need regular brushing, and brushing followed by a special shampoo and conditioner to reduce their shedding. Because their coats are so thick, their undercoat may need to be trimmed to prevent matting. Even with regular maintenance, Golden Retrievers are still susceptible to shedding and may need extra attention when their shedding is at its highest.
