They breed from Newfoundland Dogs, Tweed Water Spaniels, St. John's Water Dogs, and Irish Setters. It was also popular in the 1970s to crossbreed them with Labrador Retrievers, which increased their popularity even further. Golden Retrievers have a long lifespan, usually living anywhere from 10 to 12 years. They love playing in the water and have a thick, waterproof coat which helps keep them insulated and dry.
Golden Retrievers are not hypoallergenic, meaning they are not considered a breed that causes fewer allergic reactions than others. This is because Golden Retrievers shed a significant amount of fur, and when they shed, the skin cells that are being released can cause an allergic reaction in some people.
