A Golden Retriever is a friendly, intelligent, and loyal dog breed. They are incredibly intelligent and easy to train, making them a popular family pet that loves to play and stay active. While they have a strong personality, they are also gentle and benevolent, getting along with other pets and children very well. Golden Retrievers require a lot of exercise, plenty of grooming, and require a consistent diet of real, quality food. Their coats are thick and water-resistant, ranging in color from a light golden to a darker red-golden.
Golden Retrievers are considered to be a breed that sheds moderately. While they have medium-length coats, the fur of a Golden Retriever can be surprisingly thick and full, leading many owners to mistakenly consider them to be a non-shedding breed. In reality, however, Golden Retrievers will shed throughout the year, though the amount of shedding can be managed to a certain degree through regular brushing. Also, due to their shorter coats, they will not shed as much as breeds with longer fur that can trap shed hair more easily.
Feeding your Golden Retriever the right food is key to keeping them healthy and content. Golden Retrievers thrive on a combination of high-quality dry and wet food designed specifically for large breed dogs. Look for a food that is rich in protein and natural fats like salmon, chicken, or beef and contains wholesome carbohydrates like sweet potatoes and oats.
