Golden Retrievers are a loyal, friendly, and intelligent breed of dog known for their eagerness to please and loyalty to their owners. They were originally bred as hunting dogs and still rely on their strong retrieving instincts. Golden Retrievers require regular exercise and plenty of mental stimulation, and can be trained to do a wide variety of tasks. They have moderate to heavy coats that require regular brushing and grooming. Golden Retrievers are gentle dogs that typically get along well with people, other animals, and children.
Golden Retrievers have a medium-length double coat, which is typically straight to slightly wavy. Their coats are of an abundant and feathery texture, featuring shorter fur on the face, legs, and feet. The world-renowned "Golden Glow" makes this breed's coats particularly eye-catching, giving their fur a distinctive golden, honey, or cream-colored glimmer. This majestic coats also typically have a long fringing on the tail and back, while the undercoat is generally thick and luxuriously soft.
Golden Retrievers typically get their nutrition from a balanced diet, consisting of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Owners typically feed their Golden with high-quality dry dog food, or nutritional homemade dishes, both for puppies and adult dogs. Puppies should be fed three to four times a day, while adult Goldens require two meals per day. Medium-sized Golden Retrievers weigh between 40 and 65 pounds, stand between 21" and 24" tall, and tend to have the most energy typically having a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
Every pet is unique, so there is no “one size fits all” answer to this question. However, as a rule of thumb, most experts recommend that owners of Golden Retrievers provide their pup with at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. Additionally, those 30 minutes should not be all at once; instead, aim to break it into two or more smaller sessions, allowing your pup plenty of opportunity to rest and recharge in between.
