Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a crossbreed of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle typically sporting a thick, curly coat. They are friendly, intelligent, and highly trainable. Fun facts about Goldendoodles include: they are hypoallergenic, so their coats don't shed as much as other breeds; they love spending time with people, often following their owners around everywhere; and while they can make wonderful family pets, they can also excel as therapy dogs.
Goldendoodles typically have a non-shedding, curly coat that may be wiry, wavy, or straight, depending on the mix of its parents. Generally, a Goldendoodle's coat has a soft, dense undercoat with a somewhat wavy outercoat. They can range from light blond to dark reddish brown in color. Goldendoodles are considered to be lowto non-shedding. However, they do require regular brushing and occasional grooming to keep their coat healthy and happy.
Goldendoodles are a unique hybrid between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever, and their dietary needs can vary depending on the activity level, age, and size of your pet. Generally speaking, you should feed a Goldendoodle a balanced diet of high-quality kibble made with natural ingredients. Kibble that includes sources of fresh protein such as chicken, turkey, and fish is usually a good choice. You may also want to offer your Goldendoodle treats made with limited ingredients or specially formulated treats for pets with allergies.
You can become the best puppy parent while you wait for your Goldendoodle by being informed. Read up on the breed to get an understanding of what to expect to ensure your pup has a great start. Also, it's important to create a safe and comfortable environment for your pup when it arrives. Spend time becoming acquainted with all the necessary supplies like puppy food, toys, a crate, collar and leash. Additionally, establish a positive reinforcement training routine, as it sets the foundation for successful canine education.
Goldendoodles come in three sizes: Standard, Medium, and Miniature. Standard Goldendoodles typically weigh between 50-90 pounds and measure 22-26 inches from shoulder to floor. Medium Goldendoodles usually weigh 40-50 pounds and measure 18-22 inches from shoulder to floor. Lastly, Miniature Goldendoodles usually weigh between 15-25 pounds and measure 14-17 inches from shoulder to floor. It's important to remember that puppies grow significantly within the first six months, so their size can change drastically over time.
It is recommended that Goldendoodles should be walked each day to ensure they get the exercise they need. An ideal amount of time for daily walking is at least 40 minutes each day. If possible, try to break it into two 20 minute walks rather than one longer session. Longer walks are also advised several times per week to ensure your Goldendoodle gets a sufficient amount of exercise. Keep in mind that this time should be active and not simply taking your doodle for a stroll.
Goldendoodles are great family dogs due to their loving and people-oriented nature, making them an ideal choice if you have children. Goldendoodles are high energy dogs, which means they can keep up with active kids during playtime, as well as being gentle and calm. They are also known for being highly intelligent, and respond well to training and commands. As long as their basic needs for exercise, playtime, and companionship are met, Goldendoodles make wonderful, loyal family pets.
It is difficult to give a definitive answer as to how many minutes per day should be dedicated to training Goldendoodles, as that will vary greatly based on the individual pup's age, energy level, and level of obedience already achieved, among other factors. For younger puppies, a minimum of 10 minutes a day is recommended, with approximately 5 minutes of that time allocated to basic commands. As the puppy gets older, the amount of time devoted to training should increase in duration and intensity.
