Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed created by crossing a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Depending upon the size of the Poodle used, Goldendoodles can range in size from a small Toy to a Standard size. Goldendoodles have the intelligence of a Poodle and the charismatic, loving, and devoted nature of a Golden Retriever. They are highly social, energetic, and make great family pets; however, they do have a lot of energy and require regular vigorous exercise to stay happy and content.
Goldendoodles are generally considered to be low-allergen dogs due to their hypoallergenic coat. To further prevent allergies, it is important to regularly groom the pup. This will help reduce the amount of dander in your home and minimize the risk of an allergic reaction. Additionally, it may be necessary to wash bedding, rugs, and other furnishings to eliminate any remaining dander. Additionally, you can invest in an air purifier and attempt to keep the pup out of any rooms that a person with allergies frequents.
Goldendoodles are known for their low-shedding, hypoallergenic coats, but they have specialized dietary needs, too. To keep your Goldendoodle happy and healthy, you should feed them a premium, nutritionally balanced, high-quality dog food specifically for dogs of their size and age. Your pet's diet should contain a mixture of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fats. Try to spot-check your Goldendoodle's food every 24-hours to make sure it's still fresh and hasn't spoiled and stick to a consistent feeding schedule.
To become the best puppy parent while waiting for your Goldendoodle, start researching online and in printed books about breed-specific information, including required grooming and exercise needs. Additionally, create a plan for introducing your new pup to their environment and establishing boundaries. Also, visit the breeder if possible to familiarize yourself with your new pup and the specific attention they need. Make sure to do all the necessary preparations like buying the right supplies and preparing the home for your Goldendoodle.
Goldendoodles can vary in size depending on the type of Doodle their parents were. Generally speaking, Goldendoodles can be considered either a large or medium sized breed. Standard Goldendoodles tend to weigh the most and generally clock in at around 50 to 90 pounds, while Mini Goldendoodles tend to weigh around 20 to 40 pounds, and Toy Goldendoodles weigh in at 10 to 15 pounds. Additionally, their size largely depends on their parents' overall size.
It is recommended to walk your Goldendoodle around 30 minutes per day to satisfy their need for physical activity. Depending on their age and current activity level, you may choose to increase or decrease the amount of time spent walking. For puppies up to 18 months old, you should start with 10 minutes, gradually building up to 30 minutes a day. For Goldendoodles over 18 months old, you may split the total time into two 15 minute walks or one longer walk of 30 minutes a day.
Goldendoodles are an excellent choice as family pets. They are highly intelligent, easy to train, and affectionate. Their loyal and friendly temperaments make them wonderful companions with children and adults alike. Additionally, Goldendoodles are lowto non-shedding, which makes them a hypoallergenic choice for people with allergies. On top of that, Goldendoodles are sociable, so they fit in well in family gatherings. They are also quite active and thrive with frequent walks and playtime.
Goldendoodles are considered to be exceptionally intelligent canines, often ranking in the highest tier of intelligence measured by canine cognitive tests. A combination of the parent breeds—Golden Retrievers and Poodles—mean Goldendoodles have inherited the strong want to please owners from the Retriever and the remarkable problem-solving skills of the Poodle. This results in a very smart and adaptable pet that is generally easy to train.
