Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are an increasingly popular mixed breed of dog. They are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, and have gained immense popularity due to their friendly, intelligent, and loyal nature. Goldendoodles come in a variety of sizes, ranging from miniature to standard, and depending on the size, can weigh anywhere from 10 to 90 pounds. They are usually either a singleor double-coated breed, coming in a variety of colors, from solid black to a combination of various hues.
Goldendoodles are generally non-shedding dogs due to their genetic makeup. The breed is a hybrid cross between the poodle and golden retriever, which both have varying levels of shedding. Generally, Goldendoodles have non-shedding coats, making them an ideal choice for people who don't want to deal with the shedding of traditional breeds. Depending on the type of coat you select, your Goldendoodle may also need minimal brushing and grooming to maintain its non-shedding coat.
Goldendoodles may have some special dietary needs compared to other breeds of dogs. Goldendoodles, being a crossbreed of the beloved Golden Retriever and Poodle, may have different digestive sensitivities than other breeds. At a minimum, Goldendoodles should be fed a high-quality dog food which is tailored to their size, age, and activity level. If your Goldendoodle has any food allergies, sensitive stomach, or sensitive skin, your vet may suggest an alternative diet with special ingredients.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, it's important to stock up on a few essentials to ensure your pup has a safe and comfortable environment. Make sure you have food and water bowls, a collar and leash, dog bed, puppy pads, toys, and of course, treats! Additionally, you'll need to invest in a brush, grooming supplies, and a non-toxic flea and tick treatment. And don't forget to pick up a few cleaning and hygiene items as well as a pet-safe disinfectant for any messes your Goldendoodle may make.
Goldendoodles typically grow to be medium to large sized dogs. Generally speaking, an adult Goldendoodle can reach anywhere from 24 to 29 inches in height at the shoulder and 45 to 90 pounds in weight, depending on the proportion of genes passed down from their Golden Retriever and Poodle parent breeds. However, the size of an individual Goldendoodle can vary significantly based on the size of their parents, the type of Poodle in the cross, and the breeder who produced them.
Goldendoodles need an average of 45 minutes of exercise per day, but it's important to adjust according to individual needs. Smaller Goldendoodles may need slightly less exercise, while larger ones may need more. Typically a combination of activities such as running or walking, playing fetch, and activities that challenge them mentally such as agility, or search and rescue is best. Taking your Goldendoodle to different places for socialization and stimulation is also important for their overall development, with a combination of physical and mental exercises.
Goldendoodles can make great family dogs! They are known for being affectionate, playful, and loyal making them the perfect companion for people of all ages. Goldendoodles are intelligent and highly trainable, so they tend to learn quickly and are eager to please their owners. They have low-tomoderate energy levels and require daily exercise, so they can adjust well to active families or those with kids that are up and moving. Goldendoodles also have a low-to-none shedding coat, making them a great choice for people with allergies.
The amount of time you need to dedicate to training your Goldendoodle depends on their age, experience, and individual attention span. Generally speaking, we recommend that you give your pup between 10 and 30 minutes of dedicated training time each day, increasing as your pup learns and grows. For inexperienced puppies, start with 10-minute sessions and gradually increase the duration. As they become more proficient, your pup will likely be able to focus and learn more effectively in longer periods of time.
