Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a cross between Golden Retrievers and Poodles. This has resulted in an intelligent, loyal, and affectionate breed of dog that is low to moderate shedding, making them great for allergy sufferers. Goldendoodles come in a variety of sizes and colors, depending on the parent breed involved. They're typically very easy to train, and known for their boundless energy, defying their size. Goldendoodles have a reputation for making great family pets, often forming strong bonds with children and adults alike.
Goldendoodles may be less likely to cause an allergic reaction than other breeds, but it is not certain that they are entirely hypoallergenic. Goldendoodles are a cross between a Golden Retriever and Poodle, and although the poodle's hypoallergenic qualities are passed on, the Golden Retriever's coat may influence the mix of fur and therefore the allergenicity of the individual dog.
Goldendoodles are a unique breed that require specialized nutrition to meet their dietary needs. As with other dogs, their diet should be based mostly on high-quality proteins with some carbohydrates, fats, and essential vitamins and minerals. To get the highest nutrient content possible, look for a kibble specifically designed for Goldendoodles and other large breed dogs that contains real animal proteins such as chicken or fish. You can also supplement their diet with canned food, chews, and fresh foods like eggs, lean meats, fruits, and vegetables.
The best thing you can do as you wait for your Goldendoodle is to begin researching about the needs of a puppy. Read books, articles, and look for advice from experts. As soon as your puppy arrives, get to work on socializing them. Make sure you provide your pup with plenty of safe places for them to explore and interact with family and friends. Be consistent with training and set boundaries from the start to create positive behaviors and habits.
Goldendoodles are usually considered a medium to a large breed of dog. While there are smaller Goldendoodles, such as miniature Goldendoodles, these still tend to weigh more than 10 pounds. The standard Goldendoodle will likely weigh more than that and can usually reach anywhere from 30 to 70 pounds. The breed is crossbred with the Miniature or Toy Poodle and the Golden Retriever, which usually gives them a wavy and fluffy coat. These dogs are great for people with allergies, as they are considered a hypoallergenic breed.
Goldendoodles, like other dogs, need ample exercise to stay healthy and happy. They require at least one hour of aerobic exercise daily, such as a long, brisk walk or vigorous game of fetch. Goldendoodles, being active and intelligent, also need mental stimulation which can be provided by going on a hike or playing an interactive game. Doodles also love to swim, so if you live near a body of water, that can be a great way to exercise them for even longer periods of time.
Many Goldendoodle owners can testify that Goldendoodles make great family pets and can be highly compatible with kids. Not only are they incredibly friendly and even-tempered, but their intelligence and energy levels often make them the ideal pet for an active household with young children. Goldendoodles have a wonderful, gentle nature that works well in a family setting, and their playful, affectionate personalities make them an ideal companion for kids.
Goldendoodles need different levels of mental and physical exercise depending on the age and activity level of the dog. Generally speaking, an adult Goldendoodle should be engaged in at least 30 to 60 minutes of exercise per day, such as a long walk, run, playtime, or agility course. Puppies under 6 months of age and senior dogs should receive less, but still must be provided with mental and physical challenges to keep their minds and bodies active. Make sure to tailor your dog's exercise routine to the age, size, and breed characteristics of your Goldendoodle for best results.
