Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed, created by crossing a Golden Retriever with a Poodle. This combination creates a friendly, intelligent and energetic dog, and while no two Goldendoodles are the same, this breed is typically affectionate and loyal. Goldendoodles come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but in general they have shaggy coats and come in a variety of beautiful colors. These playful dogs are also low-shedding and often hypoallergenic, making them a great choice for families with allergies.
Goldendoodles are relatively hypoallergenic dogs, which means they are likely to be less of a trigger for anyone with allergies. That being said, it is still possible for Goldendoodles to cause allergies, as individual reactions to pet dander and other environmental factors can vary. The best way to know for sure is to contact a doctor who specializes in allergies and to discuss the options and any potential risks associated with owning a Goldendoodle.
Goldendoodles are incredibly energetic dogs and require a balanced diet for optimum health. To ensure your pet is receiving the proper nutrition it's recommended to provide high quality dry and wet food. A diet rich in protein, calcium, healthy fats, topical minerals, and essential vitamins helps to combat diseases, keeps your Goldendoodle well-nourished, and allows them to remain lively. Feeding your dog a variety of proteins, carbohydrates, and fruits is also encouraged. Be sure to read the food label to ensure the food doesn’t contain gluten, preservatives, and artificial ingredients.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, you'll want to make sure you have the proper supplies and equipment to give your new pooch a healthy start. First, get a quality, comfortable bed that is appropriate for your puppy's needs and size. You'll also need plenty of toys, a leash and collar, a brush, and a pet shampoo to keep your pup clean. Don't forget about food; buy a balanced, high-protein diet formulated specifically for Goldendoodles. You'll also need to buy bowls for food and water, and a crate, if you choose to use one.
The size of your Goldendoodle puppy will largely depend on which parent they take after most. Toy Goldendoodles typically weigh between 6-10 lbs and measure between 11-14 inches, Mini Goldendoodles typically weigh between 15-20 lbs and measure between 15-17 inches, and Standard Goldendoodles weigh between 30-45 lbs and measure between 17-21 inches. Depending on the puppy's hereditary traits, they may take after one parent more than the other, and could even grow out of their size classification.
Generally speaking, Goldendoodles love water and often take advantage of any opportunity to take a dip, whether it's in a pool, bath, lake, river, or pond. The breed's golden retriever lineage predisposes Goldendoodles to have a natural affinity for water, which often translates into a true joy of swimming. Many Goldendoodle owners report that their pooches will sprint for the water, plunge in, and gleefully paddle around without hesitation.
Goldendoodles are an increasingly popular breed of dog, and for good reason! They are an intelligent and social dog breed, often very loyal to their families. Generally, Goldendoodles get along well with people, especially children, making them a great addition to any family. They are also very friendly and rarely bark unnecessarily. Additionally, Goldendoodles are easy to train and respond best to positive reinforcement.
No one-size-fits-all answer exists for how much Goldendoodle training to provide per day. It largely depends on the age of the pup and the goals you have set for them. A general rule of thumb is 15 minutes of structured training each day. Younger dogs may require less time, whereas older dogs may need more. Also remember that playtime outside of formal training sessions counts as well. Goldendoodles benefit from a combination of exercise, socialization, activities and training.
