Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are incredibly interesting because two very different dog breeds have been combined to form this unique hybrid. Not only are Goldendoodles the result of crossing a Poodle and Golden Retriever, but depending on the type of Poodle used, you can get different coat types like wavy, curly, and straight fur. As a result, Goldendoodles typically have beautiful, low-shedding coats that require minimal grooming. They are also widely known for their intelligence, which makes them widely popular for families and families with children.
Goldendoodles are not considered to be hypoallergenic, however they can have a lower propensity for triggering allergies in people that are sensitive to certain pet dander due to having inherited a low-shedding coat. Genetically speaking, Goldendoodles are a combination of a poodle and a golden retriever two breeds that are known for having coats that don't shed excessively. Thus, the Goldendoodle coat typically exhibits the qualities of both parent breeds, resulting in a low-shedding coat.
Goldendoodles have very unique nutritional needs. It is important to do your research and consult with your veterinarian when deciding what to feed your Goldendoodle. To figure out what not to feed your Goldendoodle, avoid giving food that is high in calories, fat, or salt. Also, avoid giving Goldendoodles food that contains artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. It is especially important to stay away from human food that is high in sugar or chocolates, which can be toxic to Goldendoodles.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, it's important to invest in several essential items. Comfortable food and water dishes, a high-quality puppy food, a crate and bed, chews and interactive toys, a collar and leash, and grooming supplies for brushing and bathing should be some of the first purchases. It's also a good idea to have a designated grooming area for trimming nails, and puppy-proofing the house is essential to ensure your pup’s safety.
Goldendoodle puppies can vary in size, depending on the type of Doodle. Generally, Mini Goldendoodles will grow to be around 10-15 inches in height, weighing about 10-30 pounds. Standard Goldendoodles may grow to be up to 24 inches tall and may weigh anywhere between 50-90 pounds. The Toy Goldendoodle is the smallest size, usually only measuring 6-17 inches tall and weighing 7-20 pounds.
Generally, a Goldendoodle should have at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Depending on your pup's age and active level, it could range up to 90 minutes or more. As a general guideline, try to find a balance between not over-exercising your pup and providing them with enough physical activity to help keep them healthy. Additionally, it is important to mix up the type of exercise this can include walking, swimming, running, Frisbee, fetch, hide-and-seek, etc.
Goldendoodles are considered great family dogs due to their friendly, loving personalities. They have an eagerness to please and make excellent companions for children of all ages. Goldendoodles are intelligent and can be easily trained, which makes them a great choice for families. They do well around kids and are very patient and gentle. In addition, Goldendoodles have the playful and affectionate temperament that kids enjoy. They have moderate energy levels, which makes them great for outdoor activities, like going for walks or playing at the park.
The amount of time you need to spend training your Goldendoodle will depend on a variety of factors such as your pup's age, experience, and attentiveness. Generally speaking, Goldendoodles need at least 30 minutes of dedicated exercise and training every day. This may be broken down into manageable sessions of 10 to 15 minutes. If you are just beginning to train your pup, it's important to start off slowly. Sessions that are too long or too intensive can be discouraging for a young pup and may result in them not responding to the training.
