Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are an increasingly popular dog breed, with their goofy and gentle personalities split between poodles and golden retrievers. Fun facts about Goldendoodles include that they are considered low-to-no shedding dogs due to the combination of poodles and golden retrievers. Goldendoodles are often very intelligent and make great family pets due to their loyalty, adaptability, and low-maintenance grooming habits. To keep their coats healthy, Goldendoodles should be brushed regularly with a soft brush.
Goldendoodles are not always hypoallergenic. Though they are a mix of two breeds that are both considered hypoallergenic—the Poodle and the Golden Retriever—there is no guarantee that potential Goldendoodle owners will be safe from allergies. It is possible that certain Goldendoodles may be more hypoallergenic than others, even when they are littermates from the same parents. However, the only way to know for sure if a Goldendoodle is hypoallergenic (or not) is by conducting an allergy test.
Goldendoodles are prone to food allergies as well as digestive issues. To limit the risk of harm to your Goldendoodle, it is important to familiarize yourself with the foods that should not be fed. Generally, table scraps are not a good choice as many contain ingredients that can be hazardous to their health such as onions, chocolate, or grapes. Foods high in fat should also be avoided as they can cause GI distress, while rawhide or bones should be kept away from them due to the potential for choking and internal damage.
Goldendoodles may have some specific requirements, depending on the size, temperament, and individual needs of the dog. Generally, Goldendoodles require regular brushing and grooming to manage their longer coats. Goldendoodles also need adequate exercise, socialization, and training. They may benefit from mental stimulation activities to prevent boredom and frustration. Diet is also important for Goldendoodles, and it is important to feed them with quality, nutrition-dense, and age-appropriate food.
Goldendoodles may differ in size depending on their breeders and parents, but generally speaking, they are considered to be larger dogs due to their combination of Golden Retriever and Poodle genes. An average Goldendoodle will weigh anywhere between 50 and 90 pounds and stand at a height of 20 to 24 inches when fully grown. Goldendoodles have also been bred as more of a Giant size, which can range from 90 to over 100 pounds with a height of 28 to 33 inches. So, considering their generally large size, Goldendoodles are considered big dogs.
Absolutely! Taking your Goldendoodle for a run is a great way to exercise them and keep them healthy. It gives them an opportunity to explore and socialize, while also allowing them to use up some of their excess energy. When running with your Goldendoodle, it's important to keep them on a leash and to also bring plenty of water in case they get thirsty. Depending on their age and overall physical condition, they should generally build up gradually to longer distance runs, and shorter runs are typically best for puppies.
Goldendoodles are excellent family dogs! They are sociable, affectionate, gentle, and intelligent, making them great companions. Goldendoodles easily fit into all types of families and are great with children, making them suitable for large or small households. They have an incredibly friendly personality and enjoy interacting with people from all walks of life. Furthermore, they are trainable and responsive to commands, so diligent training is key to keep them obedient and well-behaved. As Goldendoodles require plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation, they are perfect for active families.
Absolutely! Goldendoodles are widely considered to be one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs around. They are easily trained, they tend to learn commands quickly, and they have a special knack for problem-solving. Goldendoodles also have an impressive memory and can accurately and easily remember learned commands. Additionally, they have been known to recognize faces and differentiate between people. All of these factors contribute to why Goldendoodles are being used increasingly more as service dogs and therapy animals.
