Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is a hybrid breed of dog which is created by breeding a Golden Retriever and a Poodle together. They are generally considered to be intelligent, friendly, active, and people-oriented dogs. They are usually low-shedding and also hypoallergenic. Goldendoodles are a popular breed for those looking for a family-friendly pet, as they tend to be loyal, enthusiastic, and gentle with children. These wonderful pups can come in many colors and sizes depending on the parents and are known for their playful and goofy humor.
Goldendoodles are beloved by many for their mix of intelligence, affectionate personalities, and often hypoallergenic nature. As Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed of a Poodle and Golden Retriever, and a mix of two breeds known to produce different fur qualities, the exact amount of shedding can differ from dog to dog. Many Goldendoodles have coats that are known to be considered "non-shedding," as a more dense and curly coat produces less hair loss than other breeds.
Goldendoodles, which are known for their high energy and intelligence, require the best in nutrition. An ideal diet includes a protein-rich, high-quality dry kibble. We recommend looking for kibbles that contain real meat as the first ingredient, like chicken, salmon, or beef, and stay away from those with corn, wheat, and soy as they are not easily digestible. Additionally, you should consider kibble with added probiotics and omega-3 fatty acids for your pup’s skin and coat health.
To prepare your home for your new Goldendoodle, start by creating a safe, comfortable space for them. Begin by purchasing a bed, food/water dishes, toys and treats that are specific to their size. Ensure they have access to a leash and collar, as well as an identification tag for safety. Additionally, make sure their vaccinations are up to date and choose a veterinarian that you can trust with all of your puppy's medical needs. Lastly, set up a regular and consistent routine that includes walks and play time during the day.
Goldendoodles vary in size depending on their mix. Generally, Goldendoodles can range in height from 14-24 inches and in weight from 15-90 pounds. Miniature Goldendoodles typically stand between 14-17 inches at the shoulder and weigh 15-30 pounds, while the larger standard or Maxi Goldendoodles usually weigh 45-90 pounds and can stand up to 24 inches tall. Toy Goldendoodles are the smallest, usually reaching 10-14 inches in height and 8-20 pounds in weight.
It is recommended that you walk your Goldendoodle for at least 30 minutes per day. This allows them to stay active and healthy, while giving them the opportunity to stretch their legs and get some fresh air. Furthermore, a daily walk can be great mental stimulation for your canine companion and help alleviate boredom. If your pup is particularly energetic, you may even want to consider taking them for two shorter walks (15 minutes each) rather than one long one. Ultimately, the amount of minutes you walk your Goldendoodle should be adjusted to their individual needs and energy levels.
Goldendoodles are known for their sweet and gentle nature, and typically get along very well with children. Goldendoodles are highly social and easily adaptable companions, so they should have no problem interacting positively with children of all ages. Goldendoodles also excel at understanding human emotion and are inclined to be affectionate with children, so expect them to be the ideal choice when looking for a gentle pup that will provide lots of love and entertainment. They are loyal and full of energy, so they’ll be sure to make any kid laugh and play for hours.
Training a Goldendoodle should be an enjoyable experience for both you and your pup! While there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer for how much time one should dedicate to training their Goldendoodle, it's generally recommended that you strive for at least 15 minutes a day. Training a Goldendoodle requires patience and consistency, so if you are able to dedicate more than 15 minutes a day, that's ideal. Whether you opt for 15 minutes or more, incorporating fun activities such as obstacle courses, fetch or simple obedience commands keeps your pup engaged and interested in the training process.
