Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are truly unique dogs. They are a loving and affectionate breed, with a cheerful and social personality. They are also extremely intelligent, making them very easy to train. Goldendoodles also come in a variety of sizes, from miniature to standard. They are hypoallergenic, meaning they shed little to no hair, making them an ideal pet choice for those with pet allergies. Plus, Goldendoodles are incredibly friendly and are excellent family dogs. They make awesome, loyal companions that will brighten any home.
Goldendoodles, as a hybrid breed, do not have a set answer when it comes to hypoallergenic properties. Factors such as coat type (i.e. long, short, curly, etc) and genetics play a role in a given Goldendoodle's degree of hypoallergenicity. That being said, as a general rule of thumb they are usually considered to be less likely to cause an allergic reaction than other breeds, as their coat is often wavy and can shed very little to no hair.
Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed, typically a mix of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They need a good diet to stay in good health, and they typically should eat a combination of wet and dry food that meets their nutritional needs. Wet food is high in proteins and other important nutrients that Goldendoodles need to stay healthy. Dry food is a great way to provide carbohydrate-rich nutrition that helps Goldendoodle maintain energy. Many dry food options contain some extra ingredients such as omega-Sea fatty acids to ensure paw-fect nutrition for Goldendoodles.
Preparing for your new Goldendoodle is a process that should start well before you bring the pup home. Make sure you've stocked up on all essential items, such as food, a collar, a leash, an ID tag, a dog bed, and any other items that suit your pup's individual needs. Research and purchase a sturdy leash and collar that fits your pup's size, as puppies grow very quickly.
Goldendoodles come in a range of sizes, from Miniature to Standard size. The Miniature Goldendoodle is typically between 15-20 inches tall and weighs 15-30 pounds. The Medium Goldendoodle averages between 20-25 inches tall and weighs 25-45 pounds. The Standard Goldendoodle is usually over 21 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 50-90 pounds. Each Goldendoodle's size is a product of the size of their parents; puppies of smaller parents will tend to be smaller in size, while puppies with larger parents will tend to be larger in size.
For a healthy Goldendoodle, walking for at least 30 minutes a day is a great way to ensure your pup stays physically fit. Depending on your Goldendoodle's age, size, and breed, you may need to increase the daily walking time. Generally speaking, a larger or older Goldendoodle may require more walking time than a younger one. Additionally, if your pup is having difficulty with mobility, be sure to walk for longer periods of time and consider bringing them to a vet to evaluate the issue.
Goldendoodles are a great choice for first-time dog owners because of their generally gentle, loving, and intelligent nature. They are known to be a hybrid between golden retrievers and poodles, so they come with the benefit of the poodle's intelligence mixed with the golden retrievers loving disposition. They are also easy to train, and can make loyal and devoted companions. Goldendoodles are also renowned for their low-shedding and minimal allergies making them a perfect pet for those who are prone to allergies.
Training your Goldendoodle is an important part of responsible pet ownership. For optimal results, it's best to use positive reinforcement-based methods, which encourage desired behaviors through the use of rewards such as treats or verbal praise. Timing is key when offering the rewards—immediately after the desired behavior is displayed is best. Start with basic commands such as sit, come, and stay. Short, frequent lessons are best— 20-30 minutes a few times a week.
