Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is a designer breed of dog created by crossing a Golden Retriever, one of the most reliable, friendly, and easy-going of all breeds, with a Poodle, an elegant and intelligent breed. Goldendoodles become loyal, affectionate, devoted and friendly family pets who weigh between 20 and 100 pounds, depending on the size of the parents. They are highly adaptable and can be just as suitable for families with small children as they are for those living in apartments.
Goldendoodles, the popular hybrid cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, are generally non-shedding breeds due to the Poodle's influence. However, their coats can vary from straight to wavy and may require occasional brushing to prevent mats. Some owners may still see low amounts of shedding, which may increase during seasonal changes. Generally, the Goldendoodle coat is soft, lightweight, and does not require frequent bathing as shedding is kept to a minimum.
Goldendoodles typically eat a variety of things depending on their age and activity level. For puppies, it is important to feed them kibble specially formulated for growing pups. Adult Goldendoodles usually need kibble that is balanced in terms of nutrients and calories. Senior Goldendoodles should be given kibble specially designed for their age to help prevent health problems. In addition to commercial dog food, Goldendoodles can be given homemade meals with cooked meats, whole-grain grains, sweet potatoes, peas, and fruits.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, it is important to make sure you have some essential items prepared. A collar with an ID tag, leash, food and water bowls, and a bed or crate are all essential. Toys and treats to provide enrichment for your Goldendoodle will also be useful. Grooming should be considered a priority, so a brush, comb, and nail clippers are important. Lastly, positive reinforcement techniques such as clickers, treats, and praise can turn your pet into the good, new family addition you have been dreaming about!
Goldendoodles typically come in four sizes: Standard, Medium, Mini, and Toy. Standard size Goldendoodles usually weigh between 55 to 90 pounds and measure 21 to 24 inches in height. Medium size Goldendoodles usually weigh between 30 and 45 pounds, and measure 17 to 20 inches in height. Mini size Goldendoodles usually weigh between 15 and 30 pounds and measure 13 to 17 inches in height. Toy size Goldendoodles usually weigh between 5 and 12 pounds and measure 10 to 14 inches in height.
Absolutely, taking your Goldendoodle out for a run can be great exercise for both of you! It's important to keep in mind that this breed of dog is relatively active, so it's important to gradually build up the miles if you're just starting out. Before you start running together, it's a good idea to have your pup checked out by a vet to make sure they're up to it. Also, pay close attention to the weather conditions, as too much heat or cold can be dangerous for your doodle.
Goldendoodles are known for being very friendly, loving, and loyal companions, which makes them excellent partners for families with children. They are often very tolerant of rough handling and love to play and be in the company of kids. Goldendoodles are also intelligent and easy to train, making them a great match for families who are looking for a low-maintenance, good-natured furry friend. With their eagerness to please, Goldendoodles learn quickly, so you can rest assured that they will get along with your children and become a beloved part of your family.
Depending on the age and circumstances of the Goldendoodle, the amount of minutes required per day for training may vary. Generally speaking, young Goldendoodles (age 6-8 months) will require a minimum of 15-20 minutes of daily training. For pups between the ages of 8 months and 2 years, at least 30 minutes of training are recommended. Once the Goldendoodle is older than two years, 45-60 minutes of training per day may be necessary to ensure the most effective results.
