Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed created by crossing a Golden Retriever with a Poodle. They often boast low-shedding coats, making them a generally low-maintenance breed in terms of coat care. Goldendoodles also have great personalities, making them an excellent companion and family pet. They are typically friendly, intelligent, and highly trainable. Goldendoodles are also generally very affectionate with their owners and seek out attention.
Goldendoodles are considered a low-shedding breed, but not completely non-shedding. Generally, their fur will be minimal to light in comparison to other more highly shedding breeds. However, proper grooming is essential and routine brushing and regular trims will help keep shedding to a minimum. Goldendoodles have a hybrid coat that is a combination of the hair type – wavy or curly – of their Poodle parent and the shedding coat of Golden Retriever.
Goldendoodles are incredibly smart and have sensitive immune systems, so it is very important to be mindful of what you feed them. Some foods that should generally be avoided for Goldendoodles are grapes and raisins, onions, garlic, and mushrooms. As well, rawhide, sugar-free candy containing xylitol, and salty snacks should be avoided. To ensure that your Goldendoodle is eating the best food possible, read labels and research the quality of the ingredients.
To ensure your Goldendoodle settles in successfully, it’s important to prepare your home prior to their arrival. Make sure all sharp objects, electrical cords, and anything potentially hazardous to your dog are cleared away or put out of reach. Ensure areas your dog can access are escape-proof to prevent possible injury. Puppies need to be physically and mentally stimulated, so be sure to provide them with a variety of toys to play with and chew on. Get a comfortable bed for your Goldendoodle; it should be easy to clean and large enough for them to stretch out in.
Goldendoodles are mixed breeds that vary in size, depending on the cross between the Golden Retriever and Poodle. Generally, the adult size of these puppies will range anywhere from 20–25 inches in height and can weigh 45–85 pounds. In most cases, a Goldendoodle will outgrow its puppy size and continue to grow until it is about 12–14 months old. When it comes to their size, it is highly unlikely to be able to predict the adult size without already knowing the size of the parent purebreds.
Goldendoodles were bred as a mix between the golden retriever and the poodle, so they have a tendency to like swimming although it depends on the individual. Many Goldendoodles love to take a swim, while others may need more encouragement. Inviting your pup to play fetch in the pool or splash around in a shallow area is a great way to introduce them to a new activity and see how they respond to it. If you have a fenced-in pool or access to a local lake, Goldendoodles can also enjoy taking a swim and find it very enjoyable.
Goldendoodles tend to get along with children very well. They are known to be intelligent, active, and very affectionate, as well as being patient and gentle with children of all ages. In addition, Goldendoodles typically thrive on love and attention from their family members and are eager to please, which makes them a great companion for kids. With proper supervision and care, Goldendoodles can make great playmates and friends for both children and adults alike.
Training a Goldendoodle can be easy but also takes patience and consistency. Because Goldendoodles are highly intelligent and very eager to please, they typically learn quickly with positive reinforcement. Make sure to break down tasks into small, achievable steps, reward good behavior, and have realistic expectations for yourself and your pup. It's also important to create a consistent routine and environment for them to progress in. With a healthy, positive training plan, you'll be able to help your Goldendoodle reach their fullest potential.
