Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are classified as a hybrid or designer breed. They are a mix between the Golden Retriever and Poodle, though it is typically the miniature or toy size Poodle that is part of the cross. This combination produces an intelligent, trainable, and, in many cases, a hypoallergenic pet. This unique combination of breeds makes the Goldendoodle an excellent family pet as they are endearing, loyal, and eager to please. While they can vary in size, some Goldendoodles will reach 50-70 lbs.
Goldendoodles can vary drastically in whether they are non-shedding or low-shedding, so it really depends on the individual dog. As Goldendoodles are hybrid dogs, meaning they come from a mix of two purebred parents, the amount of shedding they produce can depend on which parent breeds contributed most of the genes to that particular individual. While some may shed very little, others may shed more than one would expect from a non-shedding crossbreed.
Goldendoodles typically require high-quality dry kibble, and they should supplement their diet with additional nutrients or vitamins. The amount you feed your Goldendoodle and what type of food should depend on the age, size, and energy level of the dog. You should also be mindful of their activity level, environment, any existing medical issues, and dietary sensitivities. Fish, eggs, and other proteins are often recommended, and whole grains and vegetables are also necessary.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, it's important to purchase some essential items. Start with a collar, harness, and leash for walking your pup. Pick up some dog food and treats to feed them. To help with potty training, get some puppy pads and cleaning supplies. Invest in a good quality brush, comb, and nail clippers to keep your pet well groomed. Also, make sure to purchase a few toys and chews for your pooch to play with.
Goldendoodles, bred from a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, vary in size and weight depending on their parent breeds' size. As a result, the size of a Goldendoodle puppy may range anywhere from 15-90 lbs and 17" to 25" tall. Generally, the Mini Goldendoodle ligher in weight at an average of 15-35 lbs, while the medium-sized Goldendoodle will be between 30-45 lbs. The Standard Goldendoodle will be at the heavier end of the scale, typically 45-90 lbs.
Goldendoodles may or may not love to take a dip in the lake or pool. It really depends on the individual dog and its experiences with swimming. Some Goldendoodles may have a natural affinity for the water, picking up on swimming skills quickly and enjoying it just as much as they do other physical activities. On the other hand, some Goldendoodles may not enjoy walking into deep water because of the uncertainty it can bring.
