Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a popular designer dog breed created from a mix of two beloved breeds the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Considered one of the most intelligent breeds, Goldendoodles are naturally loyal, friendly and great with children. One fun fact is that Goldendoodles require minimal grooming and coat care the breed is known for almost no shedding. Another great Goldendoodle fact is that they are considered excellent service dogs due to their intelligence, trainability and active personalities.
The Goldendoodle's coat can be a variety of colors and shades, ranging from red to cream to apricot. Its texture can be wavy, curly, silky, and dense, and its size can vary from long to short. Because it is a hybrid of two different breeds, the poodle and the golden retriever, it has the amazing qualities of both breeds the hypoallergenic and low-shedding hair of the poodle, and the intelligence and playfulness of the golden retriever.
Goldendoodles, like any other dog breed, need a balanced and nutritious diet. It is important to know what not to feed them in order to ensure that they stay healthy and happy. Foods that are not suitable for Goldendoodles to eat include chocolate, onions, avocados, macadamia nuts, garlic, and grapes. Certain human foods, such as raw foods, spicy food, and sugary items, should also be avoided. Additionally, table scraps should not be given as they can be unhealthy and may lead to nutritional deficiencies.
Before welcoming a Goldendoodle into your home, there are some essential items you should purchase to ensure the pup's health and safety. A crate and bedding for the crate will create a designated sleeping area for your pup as well as help potty train them and prevent nighttime roaming. A chew toy and interactive treats will help with teething and a food bowl and water bowl will help ensure proper nutrition. A collar and lead will be needed for training and provide a way to safely walk the pup.
Goldendoodles can come in a variety of sizes that range from toy/miniature to standard. Generally, toy/miniature Goldendoodles will weigh between 10-24 lbs and be 12-17 inches tall. Small and medium Goldendoodles will weight 20-50lbs and stand 17-21 inches tall, while large and standard Goldendoodles will weigh 50-90+ lbs and be 21+ inches tall.
A Goldendoodle is an energetic breed, and they need plenty of exercise to stay healthy. While there is no one size fits all answer, the general rule of thumb is to walk your Goldendoodle for 30 minutes to an hour per day. This may be broken up into shorter walks if your schedule doesn't allow for one longer walk. If possible, you should also help your Goldendoodle get some off-leash exercise every day. Allowing your Goldendoodle to run around in a securely fenced-in area is a great way to give them extra activity and exercise.
Goldendoodles have a gentle and loving personality that makes them great companions for kids. They are loyal family pets who are especially well-suited for children in their own home or when visiting another household. In many cases, Goldendoodles are tolerant, patient, and affectionate with kids they have been raised with and are generally friendly towards children they do not know. To foster positive relationships between your Goldendoodle and children, provide early socialization, be consistent with training, and monitor interactions for safety. With appropriate care, Goldendoodles and children should get along well.
Training a Goldendoodle can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience, but it depends on what kind of training you have in mind. Goldendoodles are an intelligent breed, so they can pick up new commands and habits fairly easily if you have the patience and dedication to train them correctly. However, Goldendoodles need to have consistent rules and structure in order to thrive, so you'll need to be a consistent and firm trainer who provides them with lots of positive reinforcement.
