Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed of dog that is a mix of the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Originally, Goldendoodles were bred to be service, therapy and companion dogs. They are intelligent, friendly and extremely loyal. They generally have an easy-going temperament, while being very alert and protective of their family. Goldendoodles need a lot of exercise and should be walked daily. They can grow to be anywhere from 20 to 90 pounds and come in a variety of colors including white, apricot, and red.
Goldendoodles can vary widely in coat type, ranging from straight to wavy to curly, each of which has implications for allergens. Some coat types naturally shed less than others, and some are considered to be more hypoallergenic than others. Generally, though, Goldendoodles are not wholly hypoallergenic. They can still produce dander, a common allergen, which may aggravate allergies.
When choosing the best food for your Goldendoodle, it is important to consider their specific nutritional needs. Goldendoodles are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, so they have different energy levels and nutrition requirements than a single breed, such as a Golden Retriever. When selecting a food, look for one that is designed specifically for Goldendoodles or mixed breeds. Look for a food that has higher than average protein levels, whole grains, and healthy fatty acids.
Becoming the best puppy parent when waiting for your Goldendoodle takes patience, dedication, and planning ahead. Start researching now to familiarize yourself with breed-specific care and training ideas, as well as which supplies, accoutrement, and food will best match your pup's needs. Make sure you have plenty of enrichment toys available when they arrive so that their creativity, energy, and curiosity is satisfied. Enroll in an obedience class to secure a strong parent-puppy bond and an understanding of basic commands.
Goldendoodles can come in a variety of sizes, from miniature size all the way up to extra-large. Miniature Goldendoodles typically measure 10-14 inches in height and can weigh anywhere from 12-20 lbs. Standard Goldendoodles, or those at the larger end of the scale, are usually at least 22 inches at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere from 40-65 lbs. In addition, there are medium Goldendoodles, which usually measure 15-21 inches tall and weigh between 30-45 lbs.
Goldendoodles are typically active, intelligent dogs and enjoy a daily physical and mental challenge. Exercise is an important part of their routine as it helps to keep them fit, healthy, and happy. Depending on the age and size of the Goldendoodle, exercise needs can vary. Generally, adults should have around one hour of exercise a day, divided into two sessions. Puppies typically need roughly an hour to an hour and a half of exercise every day, divided into two, shorter sessions to help them sleep afterwards and prevent them from getting too excited.
Goldendoodles make great pets for first-time owners because of their intelligence, sweet dispositions, and loyal nature. They tend to be eager to please and learn quickly, making them easy to train. They are also less prone to barking, and can be less energetic than some other breeds. While they will need regular daily exercise to stay healthy, Goldendoodles tend to do well in small apartments or homes with little yard. Additionally, they often adapt quickly to new environments and can thrive in both rural and urban settings.
Goldendoodles are incredibly intelligent dogs, often characterized by their eagerness to please and strong problem-solving skills. They can be trained as therapy or service dogs, and are widely recognized as one of the most trainable and successful purebreds according to the American Kennel Club. They are particularly skilled in tasks like retrieving and playing hide-and-seek. Goldendoodles are also great with families and are known for exhibiting patience and loyalty.
