Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They are incredibly smart and loyal and make wonderful companion pets. Goldendoodles typically have a thick, soft, wavy or curly coat that often needs regular grooming. These dogs are typically friendly, affectionate, and good with families and other animals and are very trainable, making them an ideal pet for a wide range of owners. Goldendoodles are usually quite active and enjoy plenty of play, fetch, walking, jogging, and other activities.
While there are no guarantees that Goldendoodles will prevent or cause allergies, they are typically good for people with allergies. Goldendoodles are a mix of Poodle and Golden Retriever, two breeds known for having low dander levels and being hypoallergenic. Most Goldendoodles also have low to non-shedding coats which greatly reduces the amount of allergens in the air. If you are concerned about allergies, you can always talk to your doctor or an allergist about pet allergies and what the best course of action might be for you.
Goldendoodles are generally intelligent, active and friendly dogs that require a balanced, nutrient-rich diet that meets their individual needs. To ensure your Goldendoodle is getting all the essential vitamins and minerals they need, consider a diet of high-quality dry kibble that's designed for large breeds and contain sources of lean protein like chicken, fish, lamb or beef. To add variety to their diet, you can also mix in fresh fruits and vegetables, like chopped apples, spinach, and carrots.
Preparing your home for a new Goldendoodle is a great way to be ready for them when they come! In order to make them feel at home, it’s important to have a few necessary items. First, create an area with comfortable bedding for them to sleep, rest and play in. Also, make sure to puppy-proof your home by checking for any potential electrocution or ingestion hazards. An appropriate-sized crate or kennel is also highly recommended to allow your Goldendoodle to have their own secure space.
Goldendoodles are considered to be medium to large-sized dogs due to their size range. While the most common size is known to be Standard, Goldendoodles also come in Miniature and Toy sizes. However, larger Goldendoodles can weigh between 40 to 70 pounds, making them considered to be big dogs by many people. Generally, Goldendoodles stand between 20 to 24 inches tall, taking after the Golden Retriever and the Poodle two breeds known to be regularly larger than many dogs, such as the Labrador Retriever.
Absolutely! Taking your Goldendoodle running is a great way to exercise your pup, and there are a few things to consider. Make sure your Goldendoodle is well socialized and comfortable running with people or other animals. Ensure your pup is healthy and has been checked out by a vet before you go plus, be mindful of hot weather and running surfaces like pavement that can lead to paw injuries. Start off slowly with short, easier runs, and consider gradually increasing the distance over time.
Goldendoodles typically get along exceptionally well with kids and are renowned for their gentle, loving natures. They possess an uncanny knack for understanding how to be sensitive and tolerant when playing with smaller children, providing them with the perfect canine companion. Goldendoodles also crave lots of attention, making them an ideal for kids, as they're likely to receive plenty from their beloved pet. In addition, Goldendoodles are highly trainable and usually respond very well to rewards-based training.
Training your Goldendoodle requires patience, consistency and reward-based teaching methods. Begin by teaching simple commands, such as 'sit', 'stay' and 'come'. Once your pet has mastered the basics, you can look into more advanced tasks. To keep them mentally stimulated, try teaching a few fun tricks like 'high five' or 'roll over'. Be sure to use plenty of treats and praise while working on these commands to ensure your pet remains engaged in the training process.
