Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are one of the most unique dog breeds due to their hypoallergenic coat, energy level, and loving nature. The most interesting thing about Goldendoodles is their hybrid origin, a mix of two powerful breeds: the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. They have the intelligence of a Poodle but with the gentle, loving personality of a Golden Retriever. As a result, this breed is highly trainable and loyal to their owners.
Goldendoodles are not necessarily hypoallergenic. While their coat may be hypoallergenic as they are a hybrid of a Poodle, which is a hypoallergenic breed, and the Golden Retriever, which is a non-hypoallergenic breed, their coat does not determine 100% whether the breed is hypoallergenic or not. One factor for determining hypoallergenic status is the dog's saliva and dandruff, not just the coat.
Goldendoodles are known for being incredibly friendly and intelligent dogs, but like any pet, they require careful attention to what they are eating in order to keep them healthy. Before feeding your Goldendoodle, you should determine which foods are appropriate and which are not. Generally speaking, Goldendoodles should be given a high-quality diet of primarily dry kibble, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid feeding your doodle any type of raw meat or table scraps, as this can potentially lead to gastrointestinal upsets or nutritional deficiencies.
Goldendoodles have specific needs that can vary depending on their specific size and coat type; however, all Goldendoodles generally require regular grooming and daily exercise. The most common types of Goldendoodles are Standard, Mini, and Toy, and each type requires specific attention. Goldendoodles with a with a wavy or curly coat need to be brushed every other day and clipped approximately every two months. For Goldendoodles with a longer coat, you will need to brush them daily.
Goldendoodles are unique, hybrid-breed dogs and, depending on their size, may be classified as big dogs. While Standard Goldendoodles usually weigh between 50 and 90 pounds and range from 22 to 24 inches in height, Mini Goldendoodles range from 25 to 35 pounds and are typically 18 to 22 inches in height. Toy Goldendoodles are the smallest, with a weight of 10 to 25 pounds, and a height of 13 to 17 inches. Interestingly, the size of a Goldendoodle is determined by the size of the parents.
Goldendoodles have an inherent love for swimming because of their genetics. The Poodle parent breed is excellent swimmers and combines with the exuberant energy levels of the Golden Retriever, the Goldendoodle has inherited an enthusiasm for taking to the water. Water play can help to alleviate boredom, which is common in active dogs. Dog paddling is a great way for Goldendoodles to get exercise and mental stimulation. Swimming can also help to relieve aches and pains associated with joint issues that are known to plague Goldendoodles due to their larger size.
Goldendoodles are an ideal choice for families with kids. Not only are they lively and good-natured, but they're also exceptionally intelligent and help to teach children important lessons in taking on responsibility. Their excellent temperaments make them a perfect companion for children, providing them with unconditional love, joy, and protection. As an added bonus, Goldendoodles typically have minimal shedding which lessens the possibility of allergies. Goldendoodles are experts at adapting to whatever the day may bring, and interacting with kids often right away no matter their age.
Goldendoodles are often known for their high level of intelligence, and many owners report that their pup is highly trainable, eager to learn, and eager to please. Goldendoodles demonstrate their intelligence by quickly picking up commands and responding well to training. They can be alert and active when playing and exploring, often learning a few key tricks or problems-solving methods very quickly. They are also known for their ability to sense dangers and strange situations, making them reliable home guard dogs.
