Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are made up of two of the world’s most beloved dog breeds, the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. They are a unique hybrid resulting in an intelligent, loyal and portly pup that so many of us love. Goldendoodles also have the advantage of being allergy friendly due to their low or non-shedding coat. With their intelligence, good-natured personality and selectively bred low allergy coat, it's no wonder these pups are making a surge in the canine world.
Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed that are a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. As a result, they have a variety of different coat qualities. Depending on the mix of the two parent breeds, a Goldendoodle can have a single coat, a double coat, or a curly coat. Single coats tend to be soft, wool-like, and low shedding. Double coats are thicker and come with a soft, dense undercoat and a long, wavy outer coat that sheds moderately.
Goldendoodles typically have the same dietary needs as any other dog breed. However, they tend to have somewhat higher energy levels and require increased amounts of fat and protein in their diet in order to meet their needs. Goldendoodles may benefit from diets that are formualted for active dogs or those containing high-quality ingredients, such as muscle and organ meat. A feeding schedule should be established early in the pup's development and the amount of food should be monitored as they grow to ensure they are receiving enough, but not too much, food.
To properly prepare your home for your new Goldendoodle, there are a few things you should do. First, make sure your house is puppy-proofed – keep items like medications, cleaners, and small objects that your pup could choke on picked up and out of reach. Next, pick an area of your house as their designated sleeping and resting area; set up a comfortable bed, crate, and some toys. Finally, keep your pup safe and exercise good puppy manners.
Goldendoodles are considered a mediumto large-breed dog, but their size can vary greatly depending on their parent breeds. As a mix of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, they can inherit traits from either parent. Generally, Goldendoodles bred from a Toy Poodle and a Golden Retriever will be on the smaller side of the spectrum, while a Standard Poodle and a Golden Retriever mix will tend to be larger.
Goldendoodles can make great swimmers due to their natural love of water, as they are a mix of two breeds that are considered water dogs. Goldendoodles usually love to splash and play in the water, making them perfect pool or beachgoers. These dogs usually take to water rather quickly and take well to swimming lessons. Keep in mind that these dogs need to be trained to swim safely and taught to obey when your commands are given. They can also find swimming to be an exhilarating experience, and tend to get excited when they get near the water.
Yes, Goldendoodles can be a great choice for families with children. Goldendoodles offer a loving, loyal, and devoted nature that is perfect for kids. This kind of dog is known for its ability to form strong bonds with all members of a family, and they transfer this same loyalty to kids. Goldendoodles are also friendly and outgoing, making them great for kids. They have a natural instinct to protect their family, both adults and children alike.
Training a Goldendoodle requires time and patience. It's important to start training early and consistently, making sure to provide lots of positive reinforcement when they do well. Procedures such as housebreaking should be started when the pup is 8-10 weeks old. Teaching basic commands like 'sit', 'stay', and 'come' should also be incorporated into the training. It is essential that the pup is exposed to a variety of people, animal and places so that they learn how to behave in different scenarios.
