Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is an increasingly popular crossbreed of two fantastic breeds that has extraordinary qualities. It is a combination of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Goldendoodles have both the sweetness and intelligence of the Retriever, and the non-shedding and hypoallergenic qualities of the Poodle, making them highly sought-after as companion animals. They are gentle, sweet-natured, loyal dogs that bond quickly with their owners.
The Goldendoodle coat is generally curly and can range from wavy to tightly curled, looking similar to a Poodle's coat. It can also come in a range of colors from cream, golden, red, silver, black, and blue. Its coat is usually low-shedding and hypoallergenic, making this type of dog ideal for those suffering from seasonal allergies. Generally, the Goldendoodle coat is quite soft, though some may have a coarser texture due to the presence of a more firm undercoat. Furthermore, the length of their hair usually requires regular grooming;
Goldendoodles typically have similar dietary needs to those of Labrador Retrievers and Poodles; they do best on a combination of high-quality dry kibble, wet, canned food, and occasionally raw food. High-quality kibbles, such as those that are grain-free and made with natural ingredients, are best for Goldendoodles. Depending on the size and age of the dog, recommended daily food intakes range from 1 to 3 cups split up into 2 or 3 meals.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, you should consider purchasing key items for the well-being of your new pup. Puppy-proofing your home is a must, such as ensuring window latches and furnishings are secure, and doors and screens are well fitted to avoid any escape attempts. A properly-sized bed, crate, food, food bowls, grooming supplies, and toys are all essential items you should have on hand.
Goldendoodles come in a variety of size variations. Puppies can range from an extra small Micro Goldendoodle (when both the parent dogs are small) at 10 to 20 lbs, to a Standard Goldendoodle which may weigh as much as 70 to 90 lbs when both parents are large. On average however, a Goldendoodle puppy will likely reach somewhere between the 30 and 50 lb mark as an adult. Therefore, it is impossible to accurately predict the exact size of your Goldendoodle puppy without knowing the size of the parent dogs.
Goldendoodles are an active dog breed who, as a result, require plenty of exercise. Roughly one hour each day of moderate activity is usually enough for an adult Goldendoodle, although more active dogs may require a considerably longer period. This exercise can include activities like running, walking, jogging, playing fetch and swimming. Puppies, on the other hand, will need more energy released than an adult because they are constantly growing. Ideally, young Goldendoodles should have about two play sessions of around 20-30 minutes each day.
Yes, Goldendoodles are typically very good with children! They are a wonderful family pet due to their sweet, gentle, and friendly nature. Goldendoodles are social creatures who thrive when surrounded by a loving and attentive family. Due to their intelligence, Goldendoodles are also quite adaptable and easy to train. These characteristics make Goldendoodles an ideal choice for families with children because they are generally eager to please, enjoy children’s company, and are gentle and unwilling to snap or bite.
Training your Goldendoodle can be an enjoyable experience with some patience and extra effort. First and foremost, start by teaching your pooch basic commands such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’, and ‘come’. Do this by rewarding your dog for good behavior with an item they find rewarding, such as a treat or a toy. Make sure to always be consistent and never skip a step in the training process. As your dog becomes more well-behaved, try to extend the duration of commands and provide more complicated tasks for your pooch.
