Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are in the designer breed class of dogs, meaning they are bred for a specific purpose or look. Goldendoodles are a combination of two purebred dogs a Golden Retriever and a Poodle that are usually a mix of the two breeds, but may appear more like one or the other. These hybrids bring their desired characteristics from both breeds to make a great compact family dog. Goldendoodles can come in various size from miniature to standard; and in a wide range of colors and fur lengths to suit unique tastes.
Goldendoodles are considered to be lowto non-shedding dogs due to their hybrid genes. The hybridization process often eliminates the shedding tendencies of its parent breeds. Although Goldendoodles may still shed a small amount, it is often not noticeable to the human eye. Regular brushing and grooming can help to reduce any shedding that may occur. Owners of Goldendoodles should also consider their individual pet's unique needs when it comes to shed management. Proper diet, regular exercise, and regular vet visits can also help to decrease hair shedding.
Goldendoodles are considered a hybrid dog breed and therefore require a diet that caters to their particular needs. Consumer grade dry and wet foods are often good options for these intelligent and active dogs. For optimal nutrition, we recommend feeding your Goldendoodle a mix of high-quality, nutrient-packed kibble and the occasional meat-based treat. Additionally, giving your Goldendoodle small amounts of carrots, apples, and other low-calorie fruits and vegetables is a great way to supplement their diet.
Goldendoodles generally have the same requirements as any other breed of dog. They need a safe, loving, and secure home; a healthy diet with regular meals; plenty of exercise; adequate mental stimulation and adequate socialization; regular veterinary care; and a commitment of time and energy to keep them healthy and happy. Additionally, Goldendoodles do require occasional grooming, such as brushing or professional haircuts, and may need extra brushing if they have longer strands of hair.
Goldendoodles can vary greatly in size, dependent on whether they are of the Standard, Miniature, or Toy variety. Generally, the Standard type can reach up to 30 inches tall and weigh up to 80 pounds, whereas the Miniature can reach up to 24 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 20 to 35 pounds. The Toy Goldendoodle, sometimes referred to as the "teacup" Goldendoodle, can reach a maximum of 14 inches in height and weigh approximately 18 pounds.
The amount of time you should walk your Goldendoodle each day depends on the age, size, and energy level of your pet. Generally speaking, a Goldendoodle should get around 25-30 minutes of exercise for each day. If your Goldendoodle is still a puppy, their exercise needs can vary and it would be best to consult with your veterinarian for the right amount of exercise for their breed and age. It is also important to be aware of the weather and your dog's temperature to ensure activities aren't too strenuous.
Goldendoodles are an excellent choice for first-time pet owners! They are known for their intelligence, affectionate personalities, and lovable nature; traits that make them very easy to train and a loyal family companion. Goldendoodles are reliably friendly toward people and other animals, and due to their low shedding coats, they can make suitable pets for even the most allergy-prone household. Being relatively small in size, Goldendoodles are ideal for those who don't have a lot of space in their home.
Training a Goldendoodle can be a rewarding experience, but it does require dedication from its owner. Goldendoodle puppies may need some extra patience and consistency to help them learn the basics in obedience. As a very intelligent and eager to please breed, Goldendoodles will likely make learning new commands and tricks enjoyable! It is important to understand that Goldendoodles need lots of exercise and plenty of mental stimulation for them to stay out of trouble and ease the training process — such as taking them on walks, playing interactive games, and supplying plenty of toys to keep them entertained.
