Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a hybrid breed consisting of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They are quickly becoming one of the most popular doodles around due to their beautiful coats, friendly demeanors, and intelligence. Goldendoodles require minimal grooming due to their hypoallergenic coats, as they are highly unlikely to trigger allergic reactions. They are a very loyal dog and often look to their families to keep them active and entertained. Additionally, Goldendoodles are known to be great family dogs due to their intelligence and eagerness to please.
Goldendoodles are generally considered to be hypoallergenic, so if you have allergies, you may not be as affected by their coat. However, a Goldendoodle can cause allergies in individuals who are especially sensitive to dog fur and dander. The best way to determine if a Goldendoodle will cause you to have allergies is to consult your doctor and/or an allergist. Physical contact with a Goldendoodle may also help you assess your potential allergic response as it can provide an immediate reaction, if any.
Goldendoodles are an intelligent and active breed that require proper nutrition in order to remain healthy. To ensure optimal health for your Goldendoodle, it is important to feed them a complete and balanced diet tailored to their age, weight, and activity level. Since Goldendoodles have a strong predilection for human foods, it is best to provide pet-specific food or meals. Opportunistic foods, like table scraps, should be limited as they can be a source of imbalance in nutrition. It may also be wise to include a daily supplement to address any deficiencies in minerals or vitamins.
Goldendoodles do not have any special requirements beyond those that any other breed of dog would need. This includes basic health and wellness needs such as regular veterinary visits, appropriate vaccinations, healthy diet, and daily exercise. Other needs are grooming and daily brushing of the coat, as Goldendoodles tend to have a lot of fur which can require more attention. They may also need extra socialization and training depending on the individual dog's personality.
Goldendoodles come in a variety of sizes because they are a crossbred dog between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Standard-sized Goldendoodles can weigh up to 100 pounds and stand up to 24 inches tall. Mini Goldendoodles range in size from 15 to 30 pounds and can stand up to 20 inches tall. Toy Goldendoodles average about 10 pounds and range from 10-14 inches tall.
Goldendoodles, like all breeds of dogs, need regular physical activity for their physical health, mental stimulation, and well-being. Depending on size, age, and overall health, they can require anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours of exercise a day, such as walking, running, playing fetch, and swimming. Of course, it is important to tailor the amount of exercise to their individual needs, and allow for adequate rest between sessions. Take note of your Goldendoodle's level of energy and enthusiasm to ensure you are giving it just the right amount of exercise.
Goldendoodles can be an excellent choice for first-time pet owners. They are loyal, intelligent and have a great temperament making them a great companion for anyone. Goldendoodles are generally non-aggressive, even-tempered, smart, and usually get along with children, other pets, and strangers. Besides their agreeable personality, their grooming needs are relatively low which makes them a great option for first-time owners. Goldendoodles also require daily exercise and socialization to keep them healthy and active.
Goldendoodles are intelligent, trainable dogs that respond well to positive-based training methods. A good rule of thumb is to begin immediately with basic commands such as sit, stay and come. Make sure to use a strong, authoritative tone, be consistent, and give rewards for good behaviour. Training should be done for a short amount of time per day typically no more than 15 minutes, depending on the age of your pet. Additionally, training can be mixed up with fun activities such as trick-training, puzzle games, and 'Find It!' searches.
