Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is a hybrid dog breed that is a combination of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. These dogs are medium-sized and can grow to be anywhere between 20 and 30 inches tall and weigh between 30 and 80 pounds. They have a soft, wavy, dense coat of fur which is usually a golden to cream color. Goldendoodles are highly intelligent and very friendly, making them an excellent family pet. They are outgoing and enjoy being part of a loving and active home. They are also highly intelligent and easy to train.
Generally speaking, Goldendoodles do not cause allergies in people; however, this can vary depending on the individual. Allergies are caused by a variety of things, and goldendoodles themselves do not specifically trigger allergies. Some people may be allergic to the dander of a particular goldendoodle, but this usually only occurs with individuals who are prone to allergies related to other dogs, as there are similarities in the dander of all canine breeds.
Goldendoodles are actually quite easy to feed and are generally quite accepting of most commercial dog foods. However, there are some things that should be avoided. Foods with high sugar and fat content, as well as processed food, should be avoided. Uncooked meats, fish and poultry should also be avoided, as should raw eggs, nuts, grape seed extracts, and onions. Furthermore, chocolate, caffeine, and alcohol should be entirely avoided.
Goldendoodles generally have the same general requirements as other breeds, such as adequate nutrition, exercise, and socialization. However, they can have special requirements which depend on their coat type. Goldendoodles with a wavy or curly coat may need to be groomed more often, as their fur needs to be trimmed and brushed to keep it looking healthy. Depending on the activities a Goldendoodle participates in, they may need their ears and their nails to be cleaned and trimmed more frequently than other breeds.
Goldendoodles are a mix between Poodles and Golden Retrievers, two breeds with varying sizes. Generally, Goldendoodles can be considered small dogs, but this depends on the generation and mix of the parent breeds. Standard Goldendoodles are a mix of a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle, and are usually classified as medium to large dogs when fully grown. Mini Goldendoodles are a mix of a Mini Poodle and a Golden Retriever, and when fully grown, these are usually considered small dogs.
Goldendoodles are known to be an exceptionally active breed of dog. Highly trainable and eager to please, they make excellent companions for those that enjoy spending time with an active pup. Goldendoodles were bred to be an intelligent and family-friendly animal, and their high levels of activity are part of that package. Whether you're going for a jog, playing catch, or teaching them tricks, Goldendoodles can easily keep up with most activities.
Goldendoodles make excellent family dogs! These gentle, loyal, and intelligent dogs are often very loyal and make great playmates for kids. They get along well with other pets in the home and they can be easily trained and potty-trained. Goldendoodles have a low to non-shedding coat which is great for people who have allergies. As an added bonus, they are healthy, disease-resistant, and have low grooming needs. Goldendoodles have lots of energy and enjoy detailed walks, hikes, romps, and playtime, making exercising them easier.
Training a Goldendoodle starts with establishing a strong bond between the owner and the pup. A Goldendoodle is an intelligent, eager to please breed so proper training from the very start is important in helping it grow into a well-rounded dog. Start by reinforcing basic obedience commands, like sit, stay and come. Positive reinforcement is most effective, but it must be given immediately after desired behaviors, such as treats and verbal praise. Additionally, providing your pup with ample physical and mental exercise, like daily walks and interactive toys, can help keep it accountable and engaged.
