Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a fun and loving mix of the gentle Golden Retriever and the intelligent Poodle. Originally bred in North America in the 1990’s, these adorable pups are now a popular designer breed all across the globe. Goldendoodles are friendly and outgoing dogs, and have a low-shedding coat that comes in a variety of colors including cream, red, and chocolate. On average, these pups can live for 10-15 years, and are usually around 20-24 inches tall and 45-90 pounds.
Goldendoodles are often marketed as hypoallergenic dogs, but this is misleading as there is no such thing as a completely hypoallergenic dog. Some people afflicted with allergies have fewer reactions to the Goldendoodle breed due to its hybrid status and low shedding, which means that, depending on the individual, the amount of allergens they expel may be lower than some other breeds. This makes them a possibly better choice for those with severe allergies. However, since there is no guarantee of an allergy-free reaction, prospective owners should conduct an allergy test prior to adoption.
Goldendoodles, which are a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, flourish when they are fed a balanced diet. Since Goldendoodles are active dogs with a medium-sized to large frame, they need healthy portions of proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Depending on the size and age of your Goldendoodle, you may need to feed them an age and size-appropriate food that is specially formulated for large breed active dogs.

Additionally, be intentional about creating a positive environment for your Goldendoodle by regularly planning trips, activities, and playtime.
Goldendoodles can vary in size depending on the variation of Goldendoodle (F1, F1b, etc.). Generally speaking, Goldendoodles are considered medium-sized dogs, however they can range from smaller than the average medium-sized dog to larger than the average medium-sized dog. Ultimately, it all depends on the size of the two parent breeds chosen to create the Goldendoodle.
Goldendoodles are high-energy dogs and require daily exercise and playtime in order to keep them happy and healthy. For optimal health, a Goldendoodle should get at least two hours of exercise each day, with one hour of it dedicated to vigorous activity like running and playing and the other hour focused on activities like walking and swimming. If possible, it's also a good idea to give them additional playtime throughout the day liked hikes, games of fetch, agility, Nosework, and so on.
Goldendoodles are known for being incredibly family-oriented, gentle, and patient. This makes them an ideal dog for families with children. They are loving, easy-going, and have an affectionate nature, which can help them bond quickly with kids. Goldendoodles are also highly intelligent, which makes them easy to train, and they can learn quickly so that they know what behavior is expected of them. Generally speaking, Goldendoodles are excellent with kids, and have a natural instinct to protect and nurture them.
Training Goldendoodles requires a commitment of time, but the exact number of minutes per day will depend on the training goals, the age and learning level of the dog, and the skill level of the trainer. For first-time owners, a minimum of 10 to 15 minutes per day of focused attention is recommended. This can be broken up into several 5-minute sessions or one single session, whichever works better for your dog and your schedule.
