Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are often described as being one of the most loving and intelligent dog breeds due to their hybrid nature. As a combination of two breeds, Poodles and Golden Retrievers, they possess the best qualities of both breeds. Their loving personalities make them perfect companions, while their intelligence and athletic agility make them well suited for a variety of fun activities. In addition to their wonderful temperaments, Goldendoodles are also very low shedding dogs. This makes them ideal for homes where allergy concerns exist, as they generally do not trigger pet allergies.
Goldendoodles are hybrid or "designer" dogs and are known for their low-dander coats which makes them ideal for people with dander allergies. Allergies to any dog, however, can vary depending on the individual. Anytime an individual is considering introducing a pet, it is important to consider any preexisting allergies. If you are allergic to dogs, you may still be able to own a Goldendoodle by trying hypoallergenic toys and brushing your pet regularly. Acclimating to a pet can also lessen symptoms in people with allergies.
Goldendoodles are typically loveable pets, but certainly require understanding when it comes to a healthy diet. To ensure your Goldendoodle remains healthy, you should feed it a diet of high-quality dog food with limited amounts of people food. Foods that should be avoided include anything high in sugar, salt, fat, or processed preservative additives. It's important to identify what is and isn't safe for your Goldendoodle; certain items such as chocolate, raisins, grapes, onions, and macadamia nuts are never recommended.
Goldendoodles, being a hybrid of two breeds, can have a range of special requirements depending on the combination used. Generally speaking, Goldendoodles require more attention than some breeds, so it's important that prospective owners have the time and dedication necessary to properly care for them. They benefit from regular exercise and mental stimulation and need to be regularly groomed to keep their coats in good condition. Since they are social creatures, they need plenty of socialization and companionship.
Goldendoodles generally range from small to large in size depending on the parents and their generations. Generally, they are a medium to large breed, but even within the breed there can be variation. A "standard" Goldendoodle can reach anywhere from 18-23 inches in height and weigh 33-66 pounds when fully mature. "Miniature" Goldendoodles tend to reach 14-20 inches in height and weigh 25-49 pounds. "Toy" Goldendoodles grow up to 10-14 inches in height and weigh 12-25 pounds.
The amount of daily exercise for your Goldendoodle will depend on their age and overall physical condition. Generally, a 30 to 60 minute walk each day is recommended for a healthy adult Goldendoodle. However, if your Goldendoodle is still a puppy, you should adjust the walk length and activity level accordingly to keep them from getting injured or fatigued quickly. Also, consider playing a game with your Goldendoodle, like fetch or hide-and-seek, and taking them to the park, if possible, for some extra exercise.
Goldendoodles are generally friendly and sociable, so they typically do get along with kids! They are incredibly lovable and provide great companionship. They are usually very easygoing and do not have a lot of aggressive tendencies. Goldendoodles are often even-tempered and gentle, which makes them wonderful playmates for children. Plus, they have a high level of intelligence, which will help them understand how to appropriately interact with children. With consistency and training, Goldendoodles and kids can become close friends in no time.
Goldendoodles are generally known for being loyal, loving, and intelligent. Studies have shown that Goldendoodles score higher than average on intelligence tests, and they have the ability to learn new tasks and commands at twice the speed of other breeds. Goldendoodles are very trainable and eager to please, making them an ideal family pet that can learn new tricks quickly. Their easy-going temperaments and friendliness towards adults and children alike make them an excellent companion for elderly people, children, and even first-time pet owners.
