A Goldendoodle is a designer breed of dog that was first developed in the 1990s in North America. It is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, and is well known for being a loving, loyal, and incredibly intelligent breed of dog. Goldendoodles are often considered to have the best of both breeds the good-natured and playful temperament of a Golden Retriever, combined with the smart and social nature of a Poodle.
Goldendoodles are considered to be hypo-allergenic as they have a low dander level, which is the primary source of pet-related allergies. They are a mix of two breeds the Poodle and the Golden Retriever and both of their coats do not shed as much as other breeds. If you feel you may have a reaction to a Goldendoodle, it is our recommendation that you spend some time in the presence of a Goldendoodle before committing to ownership. In doing so, you can assess how your body reacts to the potential pet.
Goldendoodles have a high exercise requirement and should be fed a well-balanced diet. The food you choose should be tailored to your specific pup's individual needs and be appropriate for their size, age, and activity level. Ideally, you should provide a food with high-quality protein as the first ingredient, as well as carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. Additionally, it is best to look for food that has been specifically designed for larger breeds, such as Goldendoodles.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, you should consider purchasing some essentials such as a dog bed that is easy to clean, quality food and water bowls, dog shampoo and conditioner, nail clippers and grooming tools, chew toys, training treats, a collar and leash, a zipper doggy cover or coat for colder weather, and food appropriate for the breed. Additionally, you should think about getting your Goldendoodle spayed or neutered and getting it the necessary vaccines. Finally, making sure the house is puppy-proofed is important.
Goldendoodles can vary in size depending on many factors, including genetic lineage. Generally, Standard Goldendoodles can grow to between 21 and 24 inches tall, weighing around 60 to 90 pounds. Miniature Goldendoodles generally mature to between 14 and 17 inches tall, and typically weigh anywhere between 25 to 35 pounds. Additionally, Toy Goldendoodles reach heights of approximately 10 to 14 inches, and usually weigh around 10 to 15 pounds. With proper nutrition and exercise, these sizes generally remain unchanged throughout their lifetime.
An ideal length of time to walk a Goldendoodle would be dependent on the individual pup and their age. Generally, a young Goldendoodle pup would require between 10 to 30 minutes of walking per day, whereas an adult Goldendoodle could need up to 60 minutes. When walking a Goldendoodle, it's important to take mindful breaks and pay attention to their needs, such as when they need to rest or drink water. Keep in mind that an exercise regimen should also include mental challenges like playing fetch and puzzle solving.
