Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a mix between a Golden Retriever and Poodle, making them incredibly loyal, loving, and playful. Not only are they incredibly smart, but Goldendoodles also do not shed as much as a non-mixed Golden Retriever. They are called “doodles” because of their unique coats of fur, which are tightly curled.
Goldendoodles are often seen as a hypoallergenic dog breed, but this is not necessarily the case for every Goldendoodle. Generally speaking, a Goldendoodle will not trigger your allergies as much as other breeds due to the combination of Poodle and Golden Retriever genetics, however, the overall level of hypoallergenicity can vary from one Goldendoodle to the next.
Owners of Goldendoodles should research dog nutrition and speak with a veterinarian prior to choosing a food. It is important to provide Goldendoodles with a balanced and nutritional diet. Avoid feeding table scraps or processed foods as they can be detrimental to the health of the dog. Try to stay away from foods with a lot of sugar or salt as well as those that contain ingredients like grapes, chocolate and onions. Overall, low-fat and high-protein diets tend to be the best for Goldendoodles. As with any dog, be sure to always provide plenty of fresh water.
Goldendoodles are generally low-maintenance dogs that require the same care as any other breed. However, they do need to be well-groomed and well-socialized. They should have regular vet check-ups, exercise, and mental stimulation. Goldendoodles are often a mix of two different breeds, so they are more likely to inherit health issues from one or both of the parent breeds. It is important to research the specific parent breeds to identify possible hereditary health conditions and to be aware of any known individual health problems that should be monitored.
Goldendoodles can vary in size, as their eventual size depends on a combination of the size of their parents. On average, they range between 40 and 65 pounds and are around 20 to 26 inches tall. However, not all Goldendoodles grow to the same sizes, and some might even be larger or smaller. To get a better idea of how big a particular puppy might be when fully grown, it is best to inquire with the breeder and ask if records are available on the parents.
The amount of daily exercise for your Goldendoodle will vary depending on its age, size, and overall health. As a general guideline, approximately 30-60 minutes of daily activity should be plenty for most Goldendoodles. If your Goldendoodle is still a pup, start slowly and let the exercise intensity build up gradually as it grows. And be sure to alternate the types of exercise and the surfaces over which your pup is walking or running.
Goldendoodles are an excellent choice for families with young children. These friendly and intelligent dogs are incredibly patient and gentle, making them the perfect canine companion for kids. As they are highly trainable, Goldendoodles learn quickly to obey commands, and with adequate discipline and consistency, they can be the ideal household pet. Provided with regular exercise, adequate nutrition and plenty of socialization, Goldendoodles and children can become life-long companions, enjoying games, snuggles, and quality time together.
Training Goldendoodles is an important aspect of their socialization and mental stimulation. The amount of time you spend should depend on the age and breed of the dog, as well as its individual personality and preferences. Generally, it is suggested to perform at least 30 minutes of training and exercise a day for a Goldendoodle. That said, if you can provide more, that would be beneficial in helping your Goldendoodle reach their full potential. That could include playing fetch, teaching them tricks, or taking them to a dog park or on a walk.
