A Goldendoodle is a hybrid breed of dog made by crossing a Golden Retriever with a Poodle. The result is an incredibly smart and beautiful dog that is loyal and loving. Goldendoodles are family-friendly, perfect for a household with children. They offer companionship and a lot of love, with a gentle disposition and an eagerness to please. Goldendoodle coats are highly varied due to the poodle influence; they can be either straight, wavy, or curly.
Goldendoodles are considered a low-shedding breed, however, they are not considered a non-shedding breed. Depending on the generation and the parent breeds of the Goldendoodle, they can shed minimally or moderately. For instance, F1 cross Goldendoodles that are a mix of one part poodle and one part golden retriever usually shed minimally, whereas a F2 cross Goldendoodle, which is bred from two F1 Goldendoodles, have a moderate shedding amount.
To ensure you are properly feeding your Goldendoodle, you should familiarize yourself with the dietary needs of the breed, as well as any allergies they may have. While Goldendoodles can handle a wide variety of food, there are some foods that can be unhealthy or even dangerous for them. Foods to avoid include chocolate, grapes, macadamia nuts, onions, and garlic. Some of these may cause digestive distress, while others can even cause organ damage.
Before bringing home a Goldendoodle, it’s important to take the time to properly prepare. First, it’s important to do extensive research about the breed and the needs associated with it, so that you can adequately meet the needs of your new pup. Parents of Goldendoodles need to make sure to have a soft bed, limitless amounts of treats, a sturdy collar or harness, durable and appropriate toys, and appropriate grooming supplies necessary to keep its coat healthy.
Goldendoodles are considered a medium-sized dog breed. On average, they typically weigh between 30 and 45 pounds and stand between 16 and 22 inches tall at the shoulder. Because Goldendoodles show size variability due to their crossed breed status, some may be on the smaller side of their size range, while others may be on the larger side. A Goldendoodle will typically take its size from its parents, being larger if their parent is a large breed of Poodle and smaller if their parent is a small breed of Poodle.
It is important to provide your Goldendoodle with daily exercise to stay healthy and happy. Generally, it is recommended to give your Goldendoodle at least 30-45 minutes of exercise a day.
