Havaneses are considered to be a part of the Bichon family, which is sometimes known as the Bichon Frise, and is a type of small companion dog. They have bright and happy personalities, and are typically quite intelligent, making them a great choice for a family pet. They originated in Cuba, where they are commonly known as the Havana Silk Dog, and are also popular in the United States, often being seen in dog shows. Their primary colors are white and tan with a black mask, and their coats typically require regular grooming to keep them looking their best.
Havaneses, or also known as Cuban Bichons, are considered to be hypoallergenic which makes them a great option for those who suffer from allergies. Not all breeds of dog are hypoallergenic but Havaneses are known to cause less of a reaction than other breeds. In comparison to other breeds, this one sheds very little, meaning that allergy symptoms will be minimal. Even though they may cause minimal allergy symptoms it is still essential to maintain a regular routine for grooming and bathing in order to keep allergens at bay.
Havaneses typically enjoy eating a wide variety of fresh, high-quality foods that are specially formulated for their taste and dietary needs. They enjoy both wet and dry foods that are especially formulated for their small mouths and elegant coat. Typical meals for Havaneses include lean proteins like chicken or turkey, fresh vegetables, and complex carbohydrates such as whole wheat and oats.
