Havaneses are unique amongst the breeds of dog due to their dual-headedness. As the only double-coated breed, they have two layers of soft wool that they can shed in the warmer months and grow in colder climates, giving them the undeniable ability to adapt quickly. The combination of white and chocolate-brown toned wool holds the breed together's shared history of being a beloved companion of Cuban and Spanish royalty, as well as the companion of families throughout the world. Their adaptability and pleasing aesthetic make them the perfect choice for city dwelling and open countryside alike.
The coat of a Havanese is quite unique and lovely. Typically, it is long and silky with a cottony feel. It can hang straight or be slightly wavy. Normally, the Havanese coat is a single layer with no undercoat, and ranges in different colors and shades, from white to chocolate brown, and everything in between. In order to maintain the coat's look, the Havanese needs regular brushing, and occasional trimming around its face, paws and bottom.
