Questions & Answers
Havaneses are classified as a small companion breed. They are highly intelligent and are often recognized for their lively personalities and charming expressions. They usually have white under their eyes and long, fluffy coats in a range of colors. Though they're small in size, their bright eyes and ears make them look larger than they are. Havaneses are particularly noted for their intelligence, playful attitudes, and eagerness to please people around them. They can be trained and are highly responsive to positive reinforcement. Overall, Havaneses make wonderful family pets and are very loyal animals.
The Havanese breed is well-known for its thick, silky coat that comes in various colors. Its coat is unusually fine, light to moderate textured and may range from straight to curly. The hair can be a variety of colors including white, cream, black, gold, silver, blue and a chocolate brown. The texture of the coat should have a "cottony feel". The hair around the face is often much longer and softer, while the hair on the body will be shorter and slightly crisper.
Havaneses are small but mighty dogs that require the same type of diet as other breeds. A healthy Havaneses diet should contain lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and essential vitamins and minerals. A premium diet for Havaneses should include natural proteins such as chicken, fish, lamb, and other lean meats. When it comes to carbohydrates, complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, sweet potatoes, and oats can provide a good source of energy. Healthy fats such as omega-3 fatty acids are also important for a well-rounded diet.
Preparing your home for a new Havanese can be an exciting adventure! Before bringing your new pet home, take some steps to puppy-proof your house. Remove any hazardous items from low areas, such as electrical cords and cleaning agents. Consider also relocating any drapes or furniture that could be easily chewed or clawed by a curious pup. Make sure to block access to any rooms with items that your puppy should not reach, such as toilets or laundry bins.
Havaneses are considered small dogs! These dogs are typically classified as toy breeds and weigh around seven to thirteen pounds. They have become increasingly popular over the last few decades and are known for their distinctive look. They have thick, long fur that does not shed and they often resemble teddy bears! Havaneses also have bright, big eyes and ears that stand up. Their personality is also quite unique; they are usually friendly, energetic, and intelligent. They do well in apartments and do not bark too much.
Havaneses have a natural tendency to be active, and they can require a good amount of exercise to stay healthy. They need mental and physical stimulation in order to remain healthy, but don't need as much exercise as some other breeds. Generally, Havaneses should get a minimum of an hour of physical and mental activities, which can include going on walks, playing with toys, or learning new tricks. For best results, divide their daily exercise into two 15-minute sessions with a few minutes each day for unstructured activities such as running around the house or other playtime.
Havaneses can make wonderful family companions, especially when it comes to kids! These small dogs are full of energy, smart, and easy to train. They are naturally gentle and affectionate with children and usually bond quickly with them. However, it's important to remember that certain behaviors such as rough play should be monitored and corrected to ensure the safety of the child and the pup. With proper care and socialization, Havaneses can develop strong relationships with kids of all ages.
The amount of minutes you should train your Havanese per day will depend on a few factors, such as your pup's age, fitness level, and the type of activities you choose to engage in. We recommend starting with shorter training sessions that last around 10 to 15 minutes daily for younger Havanese puppies. As your pup matures, you can gradually increase the length of the sessions, and even add an extra session or two per day if desired. Ultimately, the goal is to keep your pup healthy and active so keep a regular schedule but don't over-train!
