While they do shed some, the amount is low compared to other breeds which is why they are highly sought after by those who are looking for a low-shedding companion. Havaneses also do not have a "doggy" smell that some other breeds do, and their loveable natures make them great companions. They are extremely intelligent and have a very playful side to them, as do most other small-breed dogs.
Havaneses are small, intelligent dogs that thrive on healthy diets, so it's important to avoid feeding them certain foods. Human food can sometimes contain ingredients that are unhealthy for dogs, like chocolate, garlic, and grape. Additionally, foods high in sugar and fat, such as candies, cakes, and processed snacks are not recommended for Havaneses. Bones, especially those from chickens, can cause choking as well.
