A Havanese is a small, intelligent, and affectionate breed of dog that is native to Cuba. They are known for being playful and affectionate, and make wonderful companions for families with children. They are quick learners and can easily be taught basic obedience commands and tricks. Because of their short coats, they do not need a lot of grooming, which makes them a great choice for busy families who lack the time or resources to maintain a more high-maintenance breed.
Havaneses are acknowledged to have a moderate level of hypoallergenic traits compared to other breeds. The breed has a fine-haired coat which sheds very little, if any, and doesn't generate much of an allergic reaction or asthma trigger. That being said, every individual case of allergy symptoms, asthma, and/or intolerance will always vary from one person to the next. It may be helpful to speak to your doctor or allergist and test for any allergies to pet hair, dander, or saliva when considering the Havaneses as a pet.
