One fun fact about Labradors is that their coats of fur range in three unique colors; black, brown, or yellow. Originally bred as efficient hunters and retrievers, Labradors are some of the most intelligent dogs, which makes them easy to train. Their dense, double coats make them excellent swimmers, perfect for cold temperatures and hunting in the water.
Labrador Retrievers are not considered hypoallergenic. While some dogs have been labeled as hypoallergenic, due to the fact that they are less likely to cause allergic reactions, there is no such guarantee with any breed, including Labradors. Allergic reactions depend on an individual’s sensitivity, the coat and possible dander of the animal, and other environmental factors. Individuals should take the time to meet any canine candidate in person, and observe the dog for any reactions they may have before making a decision about whether or not to adopt.
Labrador Retrievers need a diet that provides the right nutrition as part of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. The ideal diet for Labradors should be made up of high-quality proteins from sources including poultry, lamb, fish, and eggs, with healthy carbohydrates from whole grains like oats, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables--all in the right proportions. Fats should also be included for energy and added nutrients, with sources like olive oil and canola oil being preferred options.
