Questions & Answers
Labrador Retrievers are a type of sporting dog, they belong to the AKC (American Kennel club) Sporting Group. Labradors are known and cherished for their outgoing, even-tempered personalities and their intelligence. They are typically around 21-25 inches tall at the shoulder and they can weigh anywhere from 55-80 pounds. They have a thick, water-repellent double coat, which comes in colors ranging from yellow, black and brown to silver or red. The expected lifespan of a Labrador Retriever is normally between 10 and 14 years.
Labrador Retrievers have a classic waterproof coat that is both weather-resistant and easy to care for. Their double-coat consists of a dense, short-haired undercoat that is soft and thick, and a straighter, coarser outer coat. Labrador Retrievers typically come in three colors – black, yellow, and chocolate. Their coat also features feathering on the chest, legs, and belly, along with a moderate fringe on the tail.
Labrador Retrievers should not be fed chocolate, avocado, grapes, garlic, raw onions, raisins, macadamia nuts, candy, and alcohol. These items can be harmful or even toxic to dogs. Additionally, as with all breeds, Labradors should be fed a balanced and appropriate diet for their age and activity level (puppy, adult, or senior). Feeding them table scraps can increase their risk for obesity and other health problems.
Labrador Retrievers have some unique requirements compared to other breeds. They are active and intelligent, so owners should provide them with daily exercise and mental stimulation in order to keep them content. They require grooming as well, which could involve regular brushing and occasionally bathing. Labrador Retrievers are a "people" breed, which means they need lots of attention and socialization from their people to stay healthy and happy. It's also important to remember that their breed has a genetic disposition for overeating and obesity, so this should be kept in mind when feeding them.
Labrador Retrievers are not considered small dogs. Rather, they are classified as medium-sized dogs, and typically fall within the range of 55 to 80 pounds. They have a medium-sized, stocky build and are known for their strong, broad build and muscular shoulders. Their coats can range in color from black to yellow to brown, and sometimes even chocolate. They are an active breed and can usually walk and run for hours without tiring. Labradors tend to require regular exercise and adequate living space in order to stay happy and healthy.
Labrador Retrievers are known as very active dogs. They revel in active play and physical exercise, such as fetching and swimming, with their owners. On long walks and hikes, they are the perfect companion. They have a great deal of stamina and are always up for spending energy with their family. Labradors are happiest when they have a job to do or something else to occupy their busy minds. For active households, Labradors can provide great amusement and friendship.
