Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds of dogs in the United States due to their friendly and loyal personalities. Although they can weigh up to 80 lbs, these dogs were originally bred to work on fishing boats as companions and helpers for the fishermen. Fun facts about Labradors include that they have webbed feet to help them swim, they are often used as guide, disability assistance, search-and-rescue or therapy dogs, and have an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years.
Labrador Retrievers have a double-coat of fur, made of a short, dense, water-repellant topcoat and thick, soft, insulating undercoat.
