Labrador Retrievers are generally good-natured, intelligent and loyal dogs. They make loyal companions and are excellent for families, as long as they get the proper amount of exercise. Labs need plenty of daily activity and can have a tendency to be overweight if they are not kept active. They are good with children and get along well with other pets. Labs enjoy spending time with their families, but they do require supervision as they can be prone to chewing if not well-trained.
The Labrador Retriever has a thick, water-resistant double coat that is composed of a soft undercoat and a coarser outercoat. Labrador Retrievers are considered to be medium to large dogs. They are often referred to as "gentle giants" because of their size and calm, tolerant temperaments. Socializing them as puppies helps them develop positive relationships with their fur companions. Even if physically strong, Labradors generally have an even temperament and their breed is considered to be a non-aggressive one. As long as proper introductions and introductions are taken with other family pets, Labradors will usually be friendly and accepting of new animal friends.
