They are also the most popular breed in many other countries. Labrador Retrievers were originally bred by fishers in Newfoundland, Canada, during the 1800's. Traditionally, they were used to catch fish as well as other tasks like pulling nets. With their friendly and outgoing nature, they now make great family pets.
Labrador Retrievers typically do not cause allergies in most people, however there can be exceptions. The American Kennel Club classifies all Labrador Retrievers as hypoallergenic. This means that Labrador Retrievers are generally considered one of the 'friendliest' dog breeds when it comes to allergies.
