They have webbed hind paws which makes them adept swimmers. They're also one of America's most popular dog breeds and have been recognized by the American Kennel Club since 1917. They have a short, dense coat of thick hair which helps them endure the cold weather they originated in. They come in three color varieties of black, chocolate, and yellow, as well as various shades in between.
Labrador Retrievers are not considered a non-shedding breed, though some dogs do have less shedding than others. Generally, Labradors shed their fur a few times a year, typically during the spring and the fall. They also shed more fur depending on their gender, age, and type of coat. Many Labrador Retrievers have shorter coats that don't tend to shed as much, while others have thicker double coats that have a tendency to shed more.
