Labrador Retrievers are a highly intelligent breed that belongs to the sporting group. This group is comprised of dogs that are bred for endurance and strength and are often used for a variety of activities such as hunting, retrieving, and field work. Originally, Labrador Retrievers were used as work dogs for fishermen in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Although they have since gained international recognition, they still possess the same loyal and hardworking traits that they were originally known for.
Labrador Retrievers have a medium-length, thick coat that is water-resistant. They come in three colors: black, yellow, and chocolate. The black coat looks almost solid black and consists of a dense, short, and very smooth outer coat. The yellow coat is denser and can range from fox red to light cream. The chocolate coat is a through-and-though dark brown. Labradors also have webbed feet, to help them paddle through water, as well as longer feathering around the tail and legs.
