Labrador Retrievers belong to the sporting breed group. They are typically intelligent, friendly, loyal dogs who have adopted a role in households as a beloved pet. They are also used in fields such as law enforcement, search & rescue, therapy and more. They are easily trained and respond to commands quickly. Labrador Retrievers are strong swimmers, which makes them an ideal outdoor companion. They are an active and athletic breed, and are known to have a great desire to please owners.
Labrador Retrievers are not hypoallergenic. Although their short fur may not cause an allergic reaction in all people, they can still trigger allergies in some. Also, unlike really low-shedding breeds like Maltese or Bichons Frises, Labradors have a longer fur length that requires regular brushing and grooming. There is also evidence that indicates that allergens such as pollen can stick to their fur and be spread throughout the home, exacerbating allergies.
