One particularly intriguing characteristic of Labradors is their remarkable intelligence, which makes them easy to train and incredibly receptive to learning new skills. Not only do they excel in obedience tasks, hunting, and waterfowl retrieving, but they also commonly thrive in service roles such as drug and bomb searches, as guide dogs and therapy animals, and have even been trained for search-and-rescue operations.
Allergy reactions vary widely from individual to individual, so it is impossible to predict how you specifically will react to owning a Labrador Retriever. Generally, however, people who suffer from allergies to pet dander, hair, and/or saliva may experience some degree of discomfort more when around Labradors. Labrador Retrievers are not considered small dogs. They are in fact considered medium to large-sized dogs, with males being larger than females. The American Kennel Club (AKC) lists them as a medium-large breed with adult males measuring between 21.5 and 24.5 inches in height, and females between 20.5 and 23.5 inches. The Labrador Retriever is a powerful and athletic breed, originally developed as a retriever for hunting and water fowling.
