They were originally bred to help fishermen in the Canadian province of Newfoundland, and are great swimmers. They have an extra set of eyelashes to help protect their eyes from water and debris. Labrador Retrievers, like all breeds, shed at one time or another. Although they have a reputation for being a low-shedding breed, they are far from being non-shedding.
